Who we are

The Nelson Mandela University SEED (Student Employability and Entrepreneurship Development) Project is your catalyst for growth. It’s an opportunity to grow your skill set and career success, while studying towards your tertiary qualification(s). If you’re worried about your chances of securing a job after graduation or making a good impression in the working world, SEED will help you put your best foot forward. All you need is to be a registered Nelson Mandela University student with ambition and access to a mobile device with data connectivity.

What we do

Based on the national University Capacity Development Programme, SEED’s mission is to develop and support student entrepreneurs and enhance student employability. The global job market is a fiercely competitive space, and nothing truly prepares you for it. With SEED we can change that, by developing the skills you’ll need to thrive in the world of work. Fully funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training, SEED was created to transfer valuable entrepreneurial skills and nurture student entrepreneurship through:

  • employability workshops
  • networking activities
  • peer mentorship

What’s in it for you?

We’ve entered an EntreprenERA, where entrepreneurial thinking is your key to the world of work. At Nelson Mandela University, we don’t just develop future employees, we develop future entrepreneurs. The SEED skills that you learn through workshops and networking may improve your chances of landing a job, or better yet, starting your own business. Peer mentorship can help you tap into your true potential and build your professional confidence. Whether you start your own business or add value to an existing one, graduates with entrepreneurial skills are more employable.

With SEED, you will:

  • develop your inner entrepreneur by gaining valuable business skills
  • improve your employability skills (i.e. communication, teamwork, problem solving)
  • collaborate with like-minded individuals to expand your professional network
  • engage and learn from experienced peers through our mentorship programme
